Usha Sookai is an NYC-based journalist and singer-songwriter. A multi-tasker and hyphenated to the max, she’s also a graduate student at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY.

As an Indo-Caribbean and a life-long New Yorker, Usha cares deeply about highlighting minority and underserved populations. She’s also a self-taught singer-songwriter. Find her work on Instagram.

She’s currently a Contributor at Brown Girl Magazine and a Multimedia Intern at Foreign Policy Magazine. Earlier this year, she was a CNN Digital Video Intern. She previously interned at National Geographic, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, NY1, the NYU School of Global Public Health, and a media startup.
